No-charge service finds affected corporate PCs in seconds

AssetMetrix has announced a free service that allows its corporate customers to immediately identify batteries affected by manufacturer recalls.

IT managers use AssetMetrix™ to obtain detailed hardware and software reports and lifecycle analysis for their corporate PCs, at a rate of up to 1,000 devices per minute. The e-mail based inventory service deploys a 150Kb ‘agent’ that inventories all software and over 200 hardware elements in less than one second and without the need for databases, manual software installation, local network connections, or end-user participation.

Now, IT managers can also use AssetMetrix - at no charge - to identify and e-mail employees who are using computers that may meet the conditions of battery recalls. The Battery Recall report identifies the battery manufacturer & battery manufactured date as well as the end-user’s actual name, e-mail, and ‘computer name’. The Battery Recall report will also allow the IT manager to generate an internal e-mail to all affected end-users.

“We applaud the recent efforts of major PC manufacturers to recall dangerous or substandard batteries,” said Paul Bodnoff, president of AssetMetrix. “The Battery Recall report will give the IT manager the power to instantly identify and contact the end-users who meet the initial conditions of the battery recall.”
