Airpax Protected Battery Disconnect provides more effective solution for disconnecting power in emergency situations
Airpax Corporation today announced the availability of its new Protected Battery Disconnects with the precise protection of a magnetic circuit breaker in a completely front accessible enclosure.
Telecommunications networks are highly reliable, with interruptions being predominately uncommon. To further reduce the unlikely event of an interruption, battery backup systems provide critical backup power to keep these networks online. However, these backup systems also present a potential hazard in emergency situations, making the need to provide a remote or manual disconnect function more critical.
"When there is a potential hazard to firefighters, emergency and maintenance personnel, providing a disconnect while maintaining precise overcurrent protection for battery backup systems is critical. The PBD is ideally suited for these systems.", said Harry Fox, Airpax's Telecom Sales Manager.
Two versions, JPBD and LPBD, provide highly effective and versatile solutions which address the issues associated with battery system applications. A key component of the Airpax disconnect product is a Airpax magnetic circuit breaker, available with ratings up to 1200 amperes at 65 Vdc. In addition to overcurrent protection and switching capability, applying a voltage signal to the optional remote trip circuit allows the batteries to be disconnected from a remote location. An optional alarm circuit can also be provided, eliminating the need to design this function in separately.
