Duracell and Mobile form strategic alliance
Duracell, the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of high-performance batteries, and IXI Mobile, a new wireless technology company with a solution that enables the development of entirely new wireless devices and services, today announced a strategic partnership to pioneer the usage of primary batteries in Bluetooth devices. Under the terms of the agreement, Duracell will provide zinc air batteries and power consulting services to IXI Mobile for a variety of new, low-cost wireless devices, including sleek messaging terminals and mobile phones, to be introduced by IXI’s manufacturing partners later this year.
IXI offers a range of wireless solutions, including end-to-end software solutions and reference designs for a Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) and new mobile devices that will be powered by Duracell zinc air batteries. The PMG is a new mobile device that bridges cellular networks, such as GPRS, and personal area networks, such as Bluetooth. Using IXI’s technology, device manufacturers and consumer brand companies will be able to offer a new segment of devices powered by Duracell primary batteries. Because Duracell primary batteries are less expensive to design into devices than secondary batteries, they provide wireless device manufacturers and marketers a cost effective power source, while offering on-the-go consumers the convenience of never having to recharge the batteries and the proven reliability of the Duracell brand.
“IXI is pleased to partner with Duracell in changing the landscape of the wireless device market,” said Amit Haller, president and CEO of IXI Mobile. “With this agreement, wireless devices can now be built at a lower cost and powered by batteries consumers can buy at their local store."
“IXI's technology will enable the development of a broad range of innovative consumer electronic devices that will provide the consumer greater mobility and connectivity,” said Mark Bertolami, Duracell vice president of new business development. “Duracell is pleased to have the opportunity to support this initiative with batteries that provide convenient, long-lasting power to the consumer.”
