Panasonic introduces its powerful new up to 2100 mAh nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery system, providing a cost-efficient energy source for today's portable electronic devices.

The high-capacity up to 2100 mAh AA Ni-MH batteries last up to three times longer in digital still cameras1 than standard alkaline batteries and can be charged hundreds of times.

Panasonic's new rechargeable system also features the smallest battery charger on the market, the Quick Charger, capable of charging two up to 2100 mAh AA Ni-MH batteries in only two hours.

According to leading research firm, Business Communications Company, Inc.2, the battery industry has experienced a decline in alkaline battery sales and a shift toward the purchase of rechargeable batteries, such as Ni-MH, which perform better in high drain electronic devices.

Additionally, Business Communications Company, Inc. expects that worldwide unit sales of rechargeable Ni-MH batteries will reach an estimated 1,950 million units sold in 2003, a significant increase from the 310 million units sold in 1995.

As new digital electronic devices continue to become an important aspect of our daily lives, consumers seek flexible and convenient ways to keep electronics running longer, said Brian Kimberlin, Director of Marketing for the Panasonic Battery Group.

Panasonic’s new rechargeable battery system was designed to address consumer needs and to enhance their enjoyment of digital still cameras, handheld games, portable audio products, and two-way radios, among other devices.

Additionally, many digital still camera manufacturers recommend that consumers use high capacity rechargeable Ni-MH batteries instead of alkaline batteries.

Panasonic’s newest rechargeable battery system offers digital still camera users the convenience and assurance of fresh and long-lasting batteries at all times.

In digital camera tests conducted using AA size alkaline batteries from three national brands, Panasonic’s up to 2100 mAh AA size Ni-MH batteries took three times more photos than other brands included in the test.

Panasonic offers two rechargeable systems with the up to 2100 mAh AA Ni-MH batteries, both of which include Panasonic’s Quick Charger.

· Model BQ-390A/2K: Includes two up to 2100 mAh AA size Ni-MH batteries and a Panasonic Quick Charger, weighing only 3.1 oz. The Quick Charger charges two new AA size Ni-MH batteries within two hours and has worldwide voltage capacity. The charger accommodates up to four of the new AA size Ni-MH batteries and two up to 750 mAh AAA Ni-MH batteries.

· Model BQ-390A/8KC and BQ-390ASB/8K: Specifically packaged for warehouse clubs and designed for the active battery user, this system includes six up to 2100 mAh AA-size Ni-MH batteries and two Panasonic up to 750 mAh AAA-size Ni-MH batteries. This special bulk pack also contains the Panasonic Quick Charger.

Panasonic also offers individual up to 2100 mAh AA-size rechargeable Ni-MH batteries in packs of two, four and six; and rechargeable up to 750 AAA batteries in two-packs and six-packs. All of the up to 2100 mAh rechargeable battery systems and individual battery packs are available now.
