California Micro Devices Announces Family of CSP Voltage Regulators for Mobile Applications
California Micro Devices, today announced the CM3018 family of 150mA CMOS regulators in a compact CSP form factor at CTIA Wireless 2004, the world’s largest wireless event.
This 5-bump CSP version of the CM3018 LDO regulator requires 82% less board space than a 5-lead SOT23 version and 50% less space than a SC70 version, making it an ideal solution for space constrained applications such as wireless handsets, MP3 players and digital still cameras.
Additionally, the device features quiescent operating current that is 30% lower than competing solutions. With ten different fixed output voltages, the CM3018 in CSP can be implemented in a variety of power management applications.
High Performance in Small Size
The CM3018 in CSP has the same level of high performance as its SOT23 counterpart, handling current loads up to 150mA and providing an accurate output voltage with a tolerance of ±1%. The CM3018 in CSP features excellent line and load regulation to provide a stable and accurate supply voltage for chipsets.
The device has a very clean output voltage with the output noise less than or equal to 35µVRMS over a frequency range of 300Hz to 100kHz. With a 10nf external bypass capacitor, its PSRR is 60dB at 1kHz.
With the bypass capacitor, the power-up time is 60µs, almost twice as fast as competing solutions. The CM3018 provides both thermal and current overload protection.
A dedicated control input provides added power-up sequencing flexibility. When this input is taken low, the regulator is disabled and the supply current drops to near zero, allowing for more efficient power management in battery operated applications.
