Nicad Batteries, Are They A Thing Of The Past?

Nicad batteries is another name for nickel cadmium batteries. The nicad technology is an older type and thought today to be almost obsolete. They were very common in cellular phones in the past but have been replaced with far more efficient types. Nicad batteries have a major flaw that posed an expensive problem if they weren’t maintained properly. When a nicad battery is being recharged, its energy must be totally depleted before it is put on the charger. If it is placed on the recharger before it is depleted it will not receive a full charge and will permanently shorten the battery performance time.

The new batteries that are being produced to replace nicad batteries can be placed on a charger at anytime with no ill effects to them. They will last two to three times longer than nicads as well. This is a big advantage as the longer between charge times, the more convenient cell phone use becomes for most people.

Although nicad batteries are quickly being replaced in the market place, it is still possible to use the same recharger with the new batteries. This means that you do not have to buy a new charger as well as a new battery when you are thinking of replacement. Batteries are available to replace all nicads that have been previously in use and people are finding the new battery versions to be far more effective and convenient. It is best to make sure that you do not have a battery of this type when you are purchasing a new phone. There are much better options available to you.
