Nimh Batteries, You Can Expect More From Them!
Nimh batteries (Nickel Metal Hydride) are fast becoming the most popular choice of digital camera users, photographers, cellular phone and laptop users, and many others because these batteries have a much higher capacity and are virtually memory free. These batteries do not need to be discharged every time before recharging. Nimh batteries can be damaged from heat by overcharging but this is easily avoided by using a high quality, microprocessor controlled battery charger or a charger designed for these batteries and charging as directed. Also the rate of charge and discharge is temperature dependant.
Like most rechargeable batteries, Nimh batteries lose capacity during their useful life. New technology reduces this in these batteries and many have a much longer life cycle than older generations. Prolonged storage of a charged battery will also render the battery less efficient over time. But in this day and age, charged batteries do not sit around unused too long.
The Nimh batteries can be used in place of many other types of batteries. They operate the equipment in the same manner and there is no noticeable effect to the user. You can also expect that they will give better performance due to their very fast cycle time. Many professional photographers now use them in place of regular AA batteries in their equipment because of this. Flash equipment is more efficient. They also work very well in standard film equipment.
As the world of technology is placing ever-growing demands on the need for portable power, Nimh batteries are taking a leading role in meeting that need.
